Google is planning to integrate cryptocurrency payments into its cloud services after partnering with cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase.
Google announced on October 11th that it will begin accepting cryptocurrency payments in 2023 and that it will store its cryptocurrency reserves using Coinbase Prime.
During the pilot phase, a small group of customers will be able to pay for Google Cloud Services with one of the cryptocurrencies supported by Coinbase. The service will eventually be made available to everyone.
According to Amit Zavery, Vice President of Google Clouds, Coinbase Prime was one of the cryptocurrency storage options considered by Google.
According to Zavery:
“Google is also exploring how it can use Coinbase Prime, and see how we can participate with managing cryptocurrency assets.”
As a result of the partnership, Coinbase will also begin migrating its data-intensive applications from Amazon Web Services to the Google Cloud Platform.
