Coinbase has expanded its derivatives offerings by launching perpetual futures trading in the United States, granting eligible users access to high-leverage crypto trades previously unavailable under U.S. regulatory frameworks.
On Monday, the leading crypto exchange announced that U.S. customers can now trade perpetual futures via Coinbase Financial Markets accounts. At launch, traders will have access to nano Bitcoin Perpetual Futures (BTC-PERP) and nano Ether Perpetual Futures (ETH-PERP).
Unlike traditional futures contracts with monthly or quarterly expirations, perpetual futures have no set expiry dates, enabling traders to maintain positions indefinitely. Coinbase’s U.S. rollout offers up to 10x leverage and trading fees starting as low as 0.02%, boosting capital efficiency and market exposure for users.
While Coinbase’s international customers have long traded perps, regulatory restrictions had kept the offering off-limits in the U.S. The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC)-regulated launch marks a major shift, coming just weeks after Coinbase first announced plans to introduce the product domestically.
Perpetual futures dominate crypto derivatives markets, accounting for nearly 90% of global trading volumes. The move signals renewed momentum in U.S. crypto markets amid increasing regulatory clarity, highlighted by recent legislative progress such as the adoption of a major stablecoin bill.

the exchange posted on X.
While the launch expands trading options for BTC and ETH traders, Coinbase warned users of the risks inherent in leveraged derivatives. High leverage can amplify gains, but it equally increases potential losses.
Meanwhile, Coinbase launched its own “super app” by rebranding the Coinbase Wallet into what it now calls the Base app, combining crypto trading, payments, social media, and messaging under one platform.
