The Blockchain for Good Alliance (BGA), in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and EMURGO Labs, has launched the SDG Blockchain Accelerator — a bold global initiative designed to foster blockchain-powered solutions for tackling some of the world’s most pressing development challenges.
This collaborative program will equip UNDP personnel and affiliated partners with hands-on tools, technical training, and strategic mentorship. By aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the initiative aims to empower participants to develop, pilot, and scale blockchain-based solutions that deliver tangible economic and social impact.
Set to run as a multi-year project, the accelerator will host two four-month cohorts each year. These intensive sessions will focus on capacity building, solution development, and broader ecosystem growth. With the backing of a global network of blockchain professionals, the program is expected to generate up to 40 innovative solutions. Additionally, it will contribute to an open-source knowledge hub and promote cross-chain collaboration, helping to unify efforts across various blockchain ecosystems.
To power this initiative, BGA is leveraging the robust infrastructure of the Cardano blockchain and the deep technical expertise of EMURGO Labs. Together, they aim to provide startups and social innovators across five global regions with the tools they need to create impactful, scalable solutions to real-world problems.
Highlighting the significance of the effort, UNDP Accelerator Lead Teodor Petricevic described it as a rallying cry for global changemakers.
“Blockchain isn’t just a tool, it’s a transformative force,”
he said.
“Through this program, we’re enabling groundbreaking, transparent solutions that can uplift communities and drive sustainable growth.”
Meanwhile, Founding partner Bybit is crucial in supporting blockchain-driven social impact by pledging $1 million to EthicHub, a decentralized platform for smallholder farmers. Bybit also advocates for blockchain solutions at the policy level, recently participating in the Inclusive FinTech Forum in Kigali to discuss cross-border payments and financial accessibility for SMEs.
