The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has announced the formation of a Crypto Task Force and a series of roundtables to address key regulatory concerns in the cryptocurrency industry.
The “Spring Sprint Toward Crypto Clarity” initiative will begin on March 21 with an inaugural session titled “How We Got Here and How We Get Out – Defining Security Status.”
The first roundtable will occur from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the SEC headquarters in Washington, D.C. In-person attendance will be limited due to security. Still, the event will be streamed live on SEC.gov, with a recorded version available later. Participants can join smaller, non-broadcast breakout sessions, and the full agenda and speaker lineup will be published on the Crypto Task Force’s webpage soon.
Commissioner Hester Peirce, who is leading the initiative, underscored the importance of public engagement in shaping a practical regulatory framework for crypto. “I look forward to leveraging the expertise of the public to develop clear and workable regulations,” she stated.
This effort comes as part of a broader push by the SEC’s newly formed Crypto Task Force on January 21, led by Acting Chairman Mark T. Uyeda, to create clear regulatory guidelines and pathways for registration in the digital asset sector. This initiative addresses criticisms of the SEC’s heavy reliance on enforcement actions, which has contributed to uncertainty and hindered innovation in the crypto industry.
Alongside the roundtable announcement, the SEC has revealed the members of the Crypto Task Force, comprising staff from the Acting Chairman’s office and various SEC divisions. Commissioner Peirce commended the task force for its expertise and dedication to solving crypto regulatory challenges. The task force is led by Richard Gabbert (Chief of Staff), with Michael Selig (Chief Counsel), Taylor Asher (Chief Policy Advisor), and Sumeera Younis (Chief of Operations). Additional senior advisors are also part of the team.
