Ethereum’s leadership appears to be rethinking its strategy following growing criticism from investors and developers, with signs pointing toward a more founder-centric approach and capital formation.
Haseeb Qureshi, managing partner at Dragonfly Capital, highlighted the Ethereum Foundation’s renewed urgency to address the network’s momentum concerns. In an X post, Qureshi shared insights from recent discussions with Ethereum Foundation representatives, stating that the team is now actively considering how to make Ethereum more impactful. He noted that there’s a real urgency among Ethereum Foundation members. They recognize the concerns about Ethereum’s progress and “want Ethereum to matter,” Qureshi wrote.
One of the key takeaways from these discussions is that Ethereum leadership may be looking to replicate aspects of Solana’s Superteam model—a community-driven initiative focused on developer support and funding. This potential shift could see Ethereum prioritizing founder journeys and capital formation over its traditional emphasis on research.
Qureshi emphasized that the criticism directed at Ethereum’s governance has not gone unnoticed.
“Ethereum leadership have been getting a lot of criticism, and it’s important that you all know this — it’s working. They’re listening. They’re thinking hard about how to adapt. It’s a teachable moment for them.”
he noted.
The network’s direction has been a hot topic in recent months, with former Ethereum Foundation engineer Harikrishnan Mulackal also voicing concerns. He argued that Ethereum’s governance lacks a cohesive vision and called for a more decisive leadership approach. Mulackal suggested the network should aim for quarterly hard forks to accelerate innovation, warning that Ethereum risks repeating the stagnation of previous years without such changes.
Adding to the discourse, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin previously addressed concerns about centralization and criticism directed at Ethereum Foundation executive director Aya Miyaguchi. In a January 21 post on X, Buterin firmly rejected external pressure over leadership decisions and pushed back against the recent backlash from community members.
