Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino recently released three brief videos highlighting the company’s upcoming AI applications for both desktop and mobile.
These innovations include an AI-powered translator, a voice assistant, and a Bitcoin wallet assistant, reflecting Tether’s expanding focus on AI-driven solutions.
Among these innovations, the AI Bitcoin wallet assistant stands out by allowing users to monitor their wallet balance and conduct cryptocurrency transactions on demand. In one preview, the user directs the Tether Payment Agent to display their wallet address, check the BTC balance, and list the recipients linked to the address. The user then instructs the agent to send 0.001 BTC to a recipient. The transaction is promptly processed, with the agent providing the transaction ID.
Ardoino emphasized that these AI features will function locally on any device, ensuring “full privacy and self-custodianship” of data and funds. The applications will be integrated into Tether Data, the company’s proprietary AI Software Development Kit (SDK) platform. “Tether will soon launch its own open-source AI SDK platform, built on Bare (Holepunch’s JavaScript runtime), compatible with all hardware,” Ardoino noted. However, an official launch date is still to be announced.

This announcement builds on Ardoino’s December 2024 statement about Tether’s plans to launch its AI platform in the first quarter of 2025. While Tether’s stablecoin, USDT, remains the primary source of revenue, Ardoino hinted at future expansions into sectors such as Bitcoin mining and AI.
Similarly, Tether launched USDT on Bitcoin’s base layer and the Lightning Network, marking a significant milestone in stablecoin integration. Announced at the Plan B conference in El Salvador, Ardoino highlighted its potential to enhance remittances and financial services. The integration uses Taproot Assets, a protocol that Lightning Labs developed to enable asset issuance on Bitcoin’s base layer while utilizing the Lightning Network for fast transactions. USDT will operate seamlessly across Bitcoin’s main chain and Lightning Network, providing greater security and speed.
