Moss Genomics Inc., a Canadian biotech firm, is doubling down on its decision to integrate cryptocurrencies into its treasury strategy with its new acquisition of 460 ETH at $4,300 per ETH.
The company announced the acquisition, alongside a capital raise through private placement, on February 3, 2025, as part of its new treasury strategy.
Moss Genomics first signaled its shift toward crypto-based treasury management on January 24, 2025, when it revealed plans to raise funds and integrate ETH into its financial strategy. The company aims to leverage Ethereum to strengthen its genomics business, explore blockchain-related opportunities, and diversify its financial operations.
By the end of January 2025, Moss had already accumulated 160 ETH, signaling its commitment to this transition.
The company believes ETH is a viable alternative to traditional fiat currencies and a complementary asset to its existing business model. It expects the strategy to:
- Provide an alternative financing source
- Expand access to a new investor base within the Ethereum ecosystem
- Offer potential investment upside beyond short-term capital needs
The funds raised through the private placement and ETH financing will be used for general working capital purposes, Moss stated in its January announcement.
Jack Liu, Moss Genomics’ newly appointed CEO, emphasized that integrating cryptocurrency into the company’s treasury is a strategic decision aimed at safeguarding and potentially enhancing asset value. He noted that while digital assets are volatile, they present long-term growth opportunities that align with the company’s evolving financial strategy.
With this move, Moss Genomics joins a growing number of firms exploring digital assets as a treasury reserve, reflecting the broader trend of crypto adoption in corporate finance which took steam in 2024. Japanese firm Metaplanet earned the moniker “Asia’s Microstrategy” after it embarked on an aggressive Bitcoin acquisition spree throughout 2024. Smaller and niche companies like mining firm Critical Metals have also joined the trend. Early this year, the firm announced a $500 million Bitcoin investment strategy, stating that the move would strengthen its balance sheet and help create long term shareholder value.
