Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence company, xAI, has launched Grok 3, the latest iteration of the model powering its chatbot.
During its launch event, which was live-streamed on X on Wednesday, February 18, 2025, Musk and the xAI team unveiled the model, claiming it demonstrated superior results across multiple AI evaluation tests.
They stated that Grok 3 achieved the highest ELO score recorded on the LMSYS Chatbot Arena tests and excelled in various tests, including the American Invitational Mathematics Examination (AIME), Graduate-Level Google-Proof Q&A (GPQA), and LiveCodeBench. Its performance surpassed that of competitors such as OpenAI’s GPT-4o and Google’s Gemini-2 Pro.
Notably, Musk described the model as “scary smart” a week ago during the World Governments Summit in Dubai, claiming it outperformed all other existing models in xAI’s internal tests.
The model was trained using a significantly expanded computational infrastructure powered by over 200,000 Nvidia H100 GPUs.
The model also introduces DeepSearch, which the team claims is the “next generation search engine.” The feature is expected to enhance Grok’s web-based information retrieval for more accurate and contextually relevant answers. Musk noted during the launch event that voice assistance for the model would be added soon.
Since the release of the AI chatbot in N “vember 202”, xAI has steadily advanced its capabilities. The April 2024 update, Grok-1.5, introduced image-processing features, enabling it to analyze charts, documents, and photos. Grok 3 builds on these innovations, marking xAI’s most significant AI leap yet.
To complement the launch, xAI announced a new subscription service, “SuperGrok,” which offers users exclusive access to real-time coding assistance and advanced data analysis tools in addition to existing capabilities.
According to the xAI team, Grok 3 will be available for premium X subscribers and through a separate subscription for the model’s web and app versions.
