Former Coinbase CTO Balaji Srinivasan has suggested that Donald Trump distribute $TRUMP tokens to every U.S. citizen through a mailing list following the successful launch of his meme coin.
Srinivasan praised Trump as the “first crypto president,” noting that around one-third of Americans have bought the $TRUMP token. He pointed out that Trump’s net worth is now primarily made up of cryptocurrency, increasing from 1% to over 90%. While he sees this as a win for the crypto industry and a decline of traditional fiat currencies, he also mentioned an “alignment issue” related to Trump’s recent token launch.
“You would ideally want the President to be aligned with his citizens, such that they all held [for examples] USA coin, which gave some dividend from the profits of the USA. Kind of like the Alaska Permanent Fund,”
he said.
Srinivasan proposed a strategy for Donald Trump to address alignment issues by airdropping $TRUMP tokens to every U.S. citizen. He suggested creating a mailing list for individuals to sign up and receive their share. The plan could involve distributing $100 worth of “locked-up” $TRUMP tokens to about 77 million supporters, totalling $7.7 billion. Alternatively, increasing the amount to $500 per person would retain approximately $20 billion in reserve.
This airdrop could also serve as a strategic move to gain favour with Democrats. Srinivasan indicated that by giving a 72-hour notice, Trump could encourage many Democrats to sign up for his email list in the hopes of receiving the tokens, potentially swaying public perception and enhancing his support base.
Meanwhile, Binance has listed the Official Trump (TRUMP) token, launching trading pairs TRUMP/USDC and TRUMP/USDT on January 19, 2025, at 08:30 UTC. Deposits will begin two hours prior, with withdrawals starting on January 20, 2025. The TRUMP token is marked for high volatility and requires a risk-awareness quiz for trading.
