A recent analysis by Chainalysis revealed that most crypto wallets holding the Official Trump meme coin have seen minimal returns, with over 77% of holders earning less than $100.
Meanwhile, a small group of whales has reportedly made over $10 million each from the token.
In a January 23 thread on X, the New York-based blockchain forensic firm revealed that the TRUMP and MELANIA meme coins are predominantly popular among small-scale investors.
“Over 80% of $TRUMP and/or $MELANIA holders are investors who hold less than $1k worth of assets on Solana,”
the firm stated.
Most wallets holding TRUMP and MELANIA coins are at breakeven or have earned less than $100, with over 600,000 such wallets. In contrast, around 60 wallets have gained significant profits, exceeding $10 million.
“[…] most wallets that hold $TRUMP and/or $MELANIA hold less than $100 worth, suggesting retail buying activity. But there are also several wallets holding upwards of $100M, ”
They added.
The data analysis shows that nearly 50% of TRUMP and MELANIA meme coin holders are newcomers to the Solana ecosystem, many of whom had never purchased a Solana altcoin. Many of these investors created their wallets the same day they bought the tokens, reflecting a surge of new participants attracted by these meme coins. Additionally, after issuing 1 billion TRUMP meme coins, most of the supply ended up in just four wallets, either held or used for exchange liquidity.
Chainalysis is increasingly focusing on cryptocurrency intelligence. Recently, the company partnered with i2 Group to integrate blockchain insights into i2’s Analyst’s Notebook software. This collaboration enhances the tools available for public sector investigations, enabling users to combine blockchain transaction data with traditional datasets. This innovation aims to assist law enforcement and intelligence agencies in combating crimes involving cryptocurrencies, addressing the expanding role of digital assets in criminal activities.
