U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has appointed venture capitalist David Sacks, co-founder of Craft Ventures, as the first-ever White House AI and Crypto Czar.
Trump announced the move in a post on Truth Social on December 6. He expressed confidence in Sacks’ ability to drive progress in these critical fields.
“I am pleased to announce that David O. Sacks will be the ‘White House A.I. & Crypto Czar.’ In this important role, David will guide policy for the Administration in Artificial Intelligence and Cryptocurrency, two areas critical to the future of American competitiveness,”
Trump stated.
Sacks’ role will involve shaping policy and creating regulatory frameworks for the AI and cryptocurrency sectors. He will also lead the Presidential Council of Advisors for Science and Technology, tasked with advancing innovation and ensuring U.S. competitiveness in emerging technologies.
Sacks will also serve as a liaison between the White House, Congress, and federal agencies such as the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).
According to Bloomberg reports, Sacks maintains close connections with Vice President-elect JD Vance and has collaborated extensively with Elon Musk, who is the Director of the newly created Department of Government Efficiency (D.O.G.E).
Sacks and Musk’s appointments further reflect Trump’s efforts to cultivate stronger ties with the tech industry and retain their support, which he courted during his campaign.
Meanwhile, executives from leading cryptocurrency firms in the county, including Ripple, Kraken, and Circle, are reportedly competing for seats on a proposed crypto advisory council. According to a Reuters report from November 22, Trump’s team is still finalizing the council’s structure and membership.
Anonymous sources suggest that companies like Kraken, Paradigm, and a16z are strong contenders. Representatives from Kraken and a16z have declined to comment on the matter.
