Gemini Expands European Footprint with Launch in France

U.S.-based crypto exchange Gemini has officially launched operations in France, marking a significant milestone in its European expansion.

The exchange announced in a recent press release that French users could now create accounts and trade or store more than 70 digital assets via its website or mobile app.

The exchange also supports local payment methods, including debit cards, bank transfers, and Apple Pay, with account funding options in Euros and British pounds. Institutional clients in France can also access advanced features like the ActiveTrader™ platform and over-the-counter (OTC) trading services, designed to provide deep liquidity and competitive pricing.

Gillian Lynch, CEO of Gemini UK & Europe, emphasized the potential of the French market, citing growing interest in digital assets and a favourable regulatory environment as key drivers of Gemini’s expansion plans in the region.

The exchange recently released a report highlighting how France is becoming a key player in the global crypto market because of its regulatory framework that encourages innovation. Gemini’s 2024 Global State of Crypto report revealed that crypto ownership in France has grown to 18%, a 2% increase since 2022, despite the challenges posed by the “crypto winter” and the prolonged downturn in digital asset prices.

Meanwhile, this move comes as part of Gemini’s broader global growth strategy. The exchange recently received preliminary approval from Singapore’s Monetary Authority (MAS) to offer cross-border money transfers and digital payment token services. It claimed this approval reflects its dedication to regulatory compliance and commitment to delivering secure trading experiences in the country.

Gemini had earlier established its Asia-Pacific headquarters in Singapore and is now working towards full implementation of its Money Payment Institution (MPI) license. It also has appointed Saad Ahmed, a former executive at the South Asian super app Grab, as the Head of the APAC region.
