Samsung is set to strengthen security in its AI-powered home appliances by incorporating more blockchain technology into its systems.
In a blog post published on Monday, October 21, the tech giant announced its plan to extend the Knox Matrix framework—originally developed for mobile devices and TVs—to a broader range of home appliances.
The Knox Matrix framework utilizes private blockchain technology to create a “Trust Chain” between connected devices. This system allows appliances to continuously monitor each other for potential security threats. If a vulnerability is detected, the user is promptly notified, and measures to block the threat are initiated.
“Based on blockchain technology, Trust Chain allows connected devices to monitor each other for security threats and notifies users of threat-blocking measures if there is a problem with the security status,”
the company explained.
Samsung will also implement “Cross Platform” technology, ensuring that security standards are uniformly applied across various operating systems. In addition, the “Credential Sync” feature will bolster privacy by encrypting and securely synchronizing user data across devices.
While Samsung has not provided an exact timeline, the company aims to integrate these features into key products next year. Plans are also in place to incorporate biometric authentication, enabling users to log into apps and services using fingerprint recognition, eliminating the need for traditional passwords.
This move is part of Samsung’s broader efforts to explore blockchain technology. The company has already integrated blockchain into its Galaxy smartphones, offering the “Samsung Blockchain Wallet” and Samsung Blockchain Keystore, which secures private keys and supports decentralized app usage.
Samsung’s venture capital arm, Samsung Next, has also been active in the blockchain space. Recently, it invested in Singapore-based Startale Labs through the Soneium Spark program, with the goal of addressing Web3 challenges such as transparency and security. John Yim of Samsung Next highlighted Startale Labs’ role in advancing Web3 adoption and emphasized Samsung’s commitment to supporting visionary innovators.
