The creators of the Bitcoin Ordinals protocol have announced a major update regarding the trading of previously deemed “cursed” or invalid inscriptions.
These inscriptions, numbering over 71,000, were considered invalid due to intentional misuse or incorrect construction using opcodes, rendering them unrecognized by the protocol. Casey Rodarmor, the creator of Ordinals, addressed this issue by proposing a solution to convert these cursed inscriptions into “blessed” ones.
On June 4, 2023, the Ordinals protocol was upgraded to version 0.6.0; this upgrade marked the first phase of indexing these unidentified inscriptions. This information was shared by developers, including @raphjaph, who posted about it on Twitter.
Just released a new version of ord (0.6.0), which implements the first steps in recognizing more types of inscriptions (cursed inscriptions). Additionally you can now pass in RPC credentials through command-line flags, environmental vars or a config file.https://t.co/Xi6C92cC6z

The upgraded version of Ordinals now supports a subset of the different types of cursed inscriptions. The developers definined a new block activation height that included a specific category of previously prohibited inscriptions and made them eligible for indexing as valid positive inscriptions.
LeonidasNFT, a social media influencer associated with Ordinals, stated that these previously cursed inscriptions will now be added to the list of indexed Ordinals available for trading. The influencer further explained, “This is important because over 70k existing but invalid inscriptions are now supported, which means that once marketplaces upgrade to v0.6.0, you will be able to start trading them.“

Bitcoin Ordinals are non-fungible asset artifacts that allow users to write data onto a satoshi, the smallest unit of the Bitcoin cryptocurrency. Shortly after their introduction, thousands of Ordinals inscriptions were imprinted on the Bitcoin blockchain, resulting in congestion and increased transaction fees.
Similar to NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens), Ordinals inscriptions possess rarity and collectability. Ordinal users are usually interested in acquiring a unique piece of information permanently recorded on the Bitcoin blockchain, potentially making early or converted inscriptions on satoshis valuable in the future.
