Crypto.com, a crypto exchange, has sued a woman, Thevamanogari Manivel, for reportedly misusing $10 million erroneously sent to her by the exchange.
The problem began in 2021, when the crypto exchange was supposed to send Manivel a $100 refund but instead transferred $10.5 million.
When she received it, she used it to engage in a spending spree instead of reporting it to the cryptocurrency exchange. Crypto.com reportedly discovered the error during an audit in December 2021.
Before the exchange could request their funds, Manivel had reportedly spent a portion of it on a luxury home as a gift for her sister, Thilagavathy Gangadory. The house, located in Craigieburn, is worth $1.35 million.
After detecting the anomaly, the exchange initiated legal actions against both sisters, who are residents of Melbourne, Australia.
Victoria’s Supreme Court has ordered that the sisters sell the home and return the money to the crypto exchange. According to reports, if the sisters do not sell the house within the stipulated period, it will be placed under receivership and sold. It could also result in them being charged with contempt of court.
