In a bid to celebrate the 50th National Federation Day, a UAE postal operator issued NFT stamps to residents. This goes to show that different authorities are seeing the need to use Non-Fungible Tokens for varying purposes.
The UAE postal operator, which is called Emirates Post Group, stated that it was the first to create an NFT stamp and issue them. These collectible stamps will be publicly viewed on December 2nd, 2021 to mark National Day. The CEO of Emirates Post Group, Abdulla Mohammed Alashram, has stated, “In line with EPG’s goal of transforming into a more digital-centered company, we are proud to announce the launch of the first NFT stamp in the region, which utilizes blockchain technology. By introducing tradable NFT stamps, we are bridging the gap between traditional stamps and the world of digital cryptocurrency.”
During the public issue, four stamps, with different national themes will be made available. Before a purchase is made, the potential buyers will access the digital design that is connected to the stamp that they want to buy. Scanning the QR code on the physical card activates the NFT.
Alashram has added that Emirates Post Group will continue to issue digital or NFT stamps in the future, with this statement,
“Adopting the latest advances in digital technology in our operations is also aimed at the tech-savvy generation who prefers digitally accessible services. As part of our efforts to bridge the gap between traditional postage stamps and the digital world, we are also working to launch more NFT stamps.”
