Sam Bankman-Fried, the founder of FTX, has remained silent while under house arrest at his parents’ home in Palo Alto. However, in a recent video posted by crypto YouTuber Tiffany Fong, Bankman-Fried gave an update on his current situation. He stated that he would only grant formal interviews once he has written a comprehensive chronicle of events as he remembers them.
This news comes as Bankman-Fried is set to appear at the U.S. District Court in New York today, where he is expected to plead not guilty.
Two weeks ago, Bankman-Fried was granted bail on a bond of $250 million and released from federal custody. Upon his release, he reportedly met with author Michael Lewis, who has been following Bankman-Fried’s story for six months to feature him in a new book.
According to Fong, Bankman-Fried described his experience at Fox Hill prison in the Bahamas as “maddening” due to the lack of internet and phone access. He was only allowed to see his Bahamian lawyer as a visitor, which caused many misunderstandings and difficulties in negotiating his bail and extradition to the United States.
Denied the ability to communicate with his American legal team, Bankman-Fried felt helpless and frustrated by the situation. However, Bankman-Fried did mention that he was slightly more fortunate than other prisoners as he had access to amenities such as running water and a toilet. He also acknowledged that the overall conditions of the detention center were something he would have to get used to over time.
It is noteworthy that Bankman-Fried has admitted to donating to both major political parties in the United States, resulting in a complaint filed with the Federal Election Commission and the Department of Justice, charging him with conspiracy to defraud the United States and violating campaign finance laws.
