In response to what’s been labelled a preordained and stage-managed electoral victory for Russian President Vladimir Putin, exiled opposition leader Mark Feygin has initiated an anonymous, blockchain-powered referendum to gauge public sentiment.
The referendum, which will be conducted through the Russia2024 app, built with Rarimo’s Freedom Tool, seeks to provide Russians with a platform to express dissent against Putin’s reelection. Utilising the Arbitrum blockchain and zero-knowledge cryptography, the platform ensures voters’ anonymity, which is crucial in a country where public criticism can have dire consequences.
Feygin, a former lawyer for the protest collective Pussy Riot, emphasised the need for reliable, surveillance-proof avenues for protest and polling amidst growing risks for dissenters in Russia.
