CTL, a renowned manufacturer of Chromebooks, Chromeboxes, and a cloud computing service provider, has announced its collaboration with Ecodrive, a leading provider of eco-friendly sustainability solutions. The companies will plant a native mangrove tree for each online order as part of CTL’s climate-positive project.
CTL’s climate-positive project involves planting blockchain-verified trees on designated land portions in Madagascar to help lower carbon emissions and fight poverty by providing jobs for local villagers.
According to Erik Stromquist, CEO of CTL, since commencing their initiative to plant blockchain-verified trees per order earlier this month, the firm has supported the planting of more than 1300 trees, which will absorb more than 941,000 pounds of carbon dioxide (CO2) throughout the tree’s lifetime.
Stromquist stated:
“Planting mangrove trees is one of the most efficient ways that we can reduce our carbon footprint, protect coastal ecosystems, and stimulate local economies.”
Scientists have recommended planting mangroves as a critical step toward securing the planet’s future. Mangroves are one of the planet’s most efficient ecosystems for carbon storage. This is attributed to their extensive root systems, which can store two to four times more carbon than other mature tropical forest trees. Additionally, they aid in reducing coastal soil erosion while providing habitat for coastal wildlife.
Madagascar’s protected areas are crucial for preserving biodiversity. The Congo Basin holds 60% of Africa’s biodiversity but is threatened due to the region’s deforestation rate, which is four times greater than the global average.
CTL and Ecodrive hope to address this issue by collaborating to plant trees in Madagascar’s protected areas. Their joint initiative is an important step toward lowering carbon emissions and preserving the environment while providing opportunities for local communities.
