Vitalik Buterin, the CEO of Ethereum, has added a new feature to the Ethereum roadmap: “The Scourge.”
The scourge aims to ensure reliable and credible neutral transaction inclusion while avoiding MEV (Maximal extractable value) issues, centralization, and other protocol risks.
MEV is one of the most serious issues confronting the Ethereum network; miners abuse their power to censor or reorder transactions within blocks to extract value in the form of gas fees. Miners’ power will be drastically reduced under the new scourge plan, making confirmation and addition more equitable.

Recently, Ethereum underwent a significant evolution known as “The Merge,” which is a switch from Proof-of-Work (PoW) to Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus.
This marked the start of a new era for Ethereum by reducing the energy required to mine new blocks by 99%; it also allowed users to stake their ETH to secure the blockchain.
Regardless, high transaction fees are still a major issue. For gas fees on Ethereum to be reduced significantly, the blockchain must be extensively updated, including adding new layers to handle transactions, rollups, etc.
Ethereum, as the first blockchain to support smart contracts, set the standard for the new blockchains that are emerging now. Other blockchains introduced faster processing times, lower transaction fees, and so on. Still, the pioneer continues to be the most popular among developers.
The Ethereum developers are working hard to ensure the blockchain is safe, secure, and scalable, which is why the necessary updates and plans have been made public.
With the road map clearly laid out and followed, Ethereum is on its way to becoming more global and providing a better user experience.
