For the past two days, a whale has been spotted moving Ethereum onto the Binance exchange. According to OxScope on Twitter, the suspicious activity began on September 23, 2022.
To begin, the whale transferred 0.22 ETH to a Binance wallet. Following that, no transactions were made on the account until November 26. 0.01 ETH was transferred to the same wallet on that day.
The whale transferred 8107 ETH into the wallet at 09.19 UTC, followed by 7999 ETH a few hours later. By the end of the day, the wallet contained a total of 16,106.01 ETH.
The same transfer from the whale’s wallet to Binance occurred the following day, November 27. 15,735 ETH were added this time.
Transfers were made as early as 01:40 UTC today, November 28, with 8,035 ETH deposited into the account. Four other transfers totaling 33,348 ETH were made around 5:04 a.m. UTC.
An unknown hacker allegedly stole approximately $450 million worth of tokens from the FTX exchange shortly after the company declared bankruptcy. There has been speculation that this hacker is moving large amounts of the stolen tokens.
The abnormal activity has influenced the price of Ethereum. Nobody knows what the whale is trying to accomplish by moving such a large amount of ETH in such a short period. At press time, Binance had not issued an official statement regarding the suspicious activity.
