Blockchain technology is being used by more and more governments in projects that require decentralization and transparency. The main technological organization in Colombia, the Ministry of Information Technologies and Communications, has released a roadmap that outlines how blockchain should be included in projects intended to address issues at the federal and state levels.
The “Reference Guide for the Adoption and Implementation of Projects with Blockchain Technology for the Colombian State” document covers the fundamentals of blockchain and the several projects that would profit from including blockchain technology in their services. Specifically, the document states:
“A blockchain technology project in the public sector requires a detailed review of the requirements of the public challenge to be resolved and the usability that the distributed database would have depending on the type of project.”
Colombia has already recognized a few issues that blockchain technology could help with. The document talks about several projects, such as RITA, a network created by a national institution that uses blockchain to protect and verify the authenticity of academic degrees, and the partnership between the Bank of Colombia and R3 to use Corda for different settlement scenarios.
Recently, Mintic presented a new use case for blockchain technology that intends to help people who require their land certificates. The project will use the Ripple Ledger as a platform to register and confirm the legitimacy of these certificates. It was just finished by a third-party business called Peersyst Technology. The goal of the project is to speed up the process of giving out these land documents so that 100,000 certificates can be given to land owners quickly.
Another country that is promoting its blockchain-based network is Brazil. Institutions will use a platform, called the Brazilian Blockchain Network, to build their apps. This will make public organizations more transparent.
