Meta, formerly known as Facebook, intends to create its first physical storefront as it seeks to position itself as a leader in the metaverse space.
The 1,550 square-foot Meta Store, which will open on May 9 at the company’s Burlingame facility in California, will feature demos of its Quest 2 VR headset, Portal video conferencing device, and smart spectacles created in conjunction with Ray-Ban.
All the devices, except for the Ray-Ban spectacles, will be available for purchase at the shop. According to the company, the items can also be purchased online through a new shopping tab on meta.com.
Meta is heavily investing in the metaverse by upgrading devices with new features.
Mark Zuckerberg revealed early this month that Horizon Worlds, Meta’s virtual reality platform that debuted late last year, would begin testing features for monetizing digital goods and experiences.
Meta is also working on other hardware devices, including a smartwatch and more advanced augmented-reality glasses. Zuckerberg predicted that widespread adoption of this technology would take years.
