Brantley Millegan, a former steward of the True Names Foundation and the DAO, was removed from these prominent positions following the resurfacing of an old controversial tweet. However, attempts to remove him from his position as Director of the ENS (Ethereum Name Service) Foundation failed.
Brantley Millegan remains a director of the Cayman-registered Ethereum Name Service Foundation (ENS) following a botched vote to remove him.
Over 1.6 million ENS (37.51%) voted against removing him as Director of the ENS Foundation, 1.4 million ENS (43.39%) voted in favor, and 698,000 ENS (19%) abstained.
Millegan’s woes began earlier in 2022 when a tweet he made in 2016 resurfaced. In the tweet, he outrightly condemned socially sensitive themes, such as abortion, transgenderism, abortion, homosexuality. According to his tweet, “homosexual acts are evil. Transgenderism doesn’t exist. Abortion is murder. Contraception is perversion. So is masturbation and porn.”
Once the tweet resurfaced, it sparked outrage in the cryptocurrency community. Nick Johnson, founder and lead developer of ENS, fired Millegan from True Names Ltd.
Everyone that held an ENS token was allowed to vote, as one token represented a vote. Once the vote ended, Milegan stated, “Thank you, everyone. I take the responsibilities of being an ENS Foundation director and ENS DAO delegate seriously and will continue to do my best to serve the interests of the ENS project. I believe ENS is for everyone. Like many of you in the ENS community, I’m interested in getting back to building ENS. I look forward to continuing to work to make ENS the decentralized identity layer of the universe.”
