Manchester City, a notable football team and the Premier League champions have announced that it intends to erect the virtual replica of the Etihad Stadium in the metaverse and to achieve this, it was partnering with Sony.
Manchester City uses the Etihad Stadium as its home in England, playing a lot of their games there. On February 18, the team stated to the public that they had signed an agreement with Sony to erect this innovation. Sony will offer the team their virtual reality expertise. Professionals from Hawk-Eye, a subsidiary of Sony, will be involved in the project.
With this development, fans will enjoy the perks of having a stadium in the metaverse, where they can watch matches in an immersive setting, especially with the COVID-19 restrictions. This will be beneficial to fans that can’t travel to watch a match for one reason or the other.
According to the Marketing Director of City Football Group, Nuria Tarre, he announced that,
“The whole point we could imagine of having a metaverse is you can recreate a game, you could watch the game live, you’re part of the action in a different way through different angles and you can fill the stadium as much as you want because it’s unlimited, it’s completely virtual.”
“But also you’re in control of what you want to be watching at that time. There’s not one broadcast point of view, you can look at it from any angle of the stadium. That’s the sky – the limit.”
Hawk-Eye, a subsidiary of Sony, has the needed experience in improving the experience of sports for officials and fans.
