Breaking Into Blockchain As A Marketer

The blockchain space is creating a new economy that has both existing and novel revenue streams. Apart from being a technology that hosts decentralized finance apps, NFT, DAO, and the likes, blockchain has created job opportunities that are not limited only to a smart contract developer or a blockchain engineer. Some existing job opportunities in the real world that can also be found in the decentralized economy are accounting, marketing, designing, and much more. Novel job roles that were created with the coming of blockchain are smart contract writer, NFT designer, and so on. 

Marketing is a crucial role in every industry and the blockchain world is not left out of this. It is the process of boosting the image, sales, and revenue of a company. Marketers are sought after because they convince potential clients to purchase or utilize the products that the firm is offering. The end process of any company is to satisfy the needs of their clients, and the duty of the marketer is to convince the target market to give the product a try. 

Blockchain technology is the home of a myriad of innovations, from a Non-Fungible Token marketplace to decentralized finance platforms. These platforms have different features that they offer to the market. A decentralized exchange may offer a swap feature, spot trading, an AMM functionality, futures trading, margin trading, social trading, and so on. An NFT platform may offer its clients access to an NFT minting feature, NFT marketplace, a lending feature that allows users to utilize their Non-Fungible Tokens as collateral, a tracker to search for NFTs in different platforms, and much more. This means that the blockchain space is competitive, and there is the need for a marketing team to offer a company the competitive edge. 

There are thousands of projects in existence, and some end up disappearing into thin air because of different reasons. One reason is a poor marketing strategy and team to implement the marketing aspect. Blockchain platforms invest a lot in marketing, which includes releasing PR articles on popular websites like DeFi Planet, hosting airdrops and bounties, organizing a hackathon, using the services of a launchpad, doing an AMA, using influencer marketing, and so on. All these are done to improve the value of the products in the eyes of the consumer and become a household name. 

The need for marketers in the blockchain space will always exist, as both new and existing companies want to stay ahead of their competitors and increase their market share. For someone that is already in the marketing space in a different niche, taking a switch to the blockchain world may not be a bad idea. The same is available for a person that has never worked as a marketer. 

Similar Names To A Blockchain Marketer

A blockchain marketer has different job designations such as a blockchain salesperson, decentralized finance digital marketer, an NFT marketing executive, a marketing manager, a marketing coordinator, a marketing lead, a senior marketing coordinator, and a lead marketing coordinator. 

Job Description of a Blockchain Marketer

Every blockchain company needs the services of a marketer to improve its goodwill, sales, and revenue in the market. To do this, they are expected to fulfill some responsibilities and duties. The marketer does not work in isolation. They are usually a part of a team, where they brainstorm and plan the strategic plans for the marketing campaign. Once the campaign is launched, it is monitored and measured for success using the trackable metrics, then tweaked where necessary. 

• Partner with other teams in the company 

A marketer in a Blockchain firm can’t work in isolation, as they are expected to collaborate with other teams. For instance, before a marketer releases a campaign, they have to discuss with the sales team to ensure that the campaign is in line with the sales strategy of the company. The marketing team will also partner with the product design to intimate them of any issues that the clients and public have with the products. They will also collaborate with the advertising department to brainstorm ideas for unique advertising packages on social media and off it. When a promotional marketing campaign is in the works, the marketer has to work with everyone mentioned above to ensure that it succeeds. If an issue is unearthed, the marketer can disclose this to the customer service team to prepare them for an influx of complaints from users. 

• Be abreast with the changes in the field

Marketing is a broad area, and as marketing tools continue to increase daily, a blockchain marketer has to be abreast with them. Recently, NFTs have been buzzing, and to go with the flow, the marketer of a decentralized finance platform can decide to mint limited edition NFTs and give them to clients that are on the top 50 leaderboards. Using this tactic could improve the goodwill of the platform in the eyes of users, and convince the target market to utilize the features on the DeFi platform to win an NFT. 

• Design the content creation schedule 

A marketer creates the editorial and content schedule for the different platforms that the company uses. Monthly, a content creation calendar is released to guide content writers, graphic designers, video creators, and other members of the content design team on the theme for a period. This means that any digital material released on different social and traditional media platforms is in line with the theme.

Skillset of a Blockchain Marketer

A potential blockchain marketer should possess crucial knowledge of the blockchain space and innovations, as well as some soft skills. 

  • If a marketer intends to work in an NFT marketplace, they should understand what an NFT is, the minting process, sales of NFTs, and the fundamentals of the platform.
  • A blockchain marketer will work with other teams and individuals in the firm, from the sales to the product development department. Good interpersonal skills allow them to seamlessly partner with others to meet the desired goals.
  • Every astute blockchain marketer has good communication skills, which cut across speaking, writing, presenting, as well as listening.
  • Marketers in the blockchain space are involved in one campaign or another, meaning that they need to possess in-depth project management skills.
  • Blockchain Marketers need to gather data to plan their campaigns and monitor the outcome of their strategies. Data gathering and analysis skills are important in this field. 
  • Marketers, as earlier mentioned, do not work in isolation. They also need the help of content management systems to gather leads of potential content that will drive traffic to their website. An understanding of SEO is necessary especially with the rising importance of digital marketing. 
  • Blockchain Marketers use different software like customer relationship management packages and web page analytics to ease their process and drive massive adoption of their features.

Educational Requirements of a Blockchain Marketer

A potential blockchain marketer may need the following educational qualifications and certifications:

  • A Bachelor in Marketing, Advertising, Public Relations or related courses
  • Practical training in internships
  • Blockchain fundamentals course
  • Blockchain marketing course 
  • Professional marketing certificate

Credible Courses To Take

Some courses designed to imbibe the necessary knowledge to function as a Blockchain Marketer are available both on the internet and offline. 

  • Online University Courses

A potential Blockchain Marketer can enroll in online courses offered by universities. The University closeby may be offering a course that offers blockchain marketing classes. Sometimes, the course may be online or in-person. 

  • Online Educational Platforms

The advent of edtech has introduced online educational platforms like Coursera, Khan Academy and Udemy with easy-to-understand courses to the public. A potential blockchain marketer can get the necessary education in one or more of these platforms. 

  • Free courses

The likes of YouTube have tutors from all over the globe offering their knowledge through videos with no cost to the user. A search on YouTube will open up a league of innovative courses on blockchain marketing strategies.

Salary of a Blockchain Marketer

According to Glassdoor, “the national average salary for a Marketing is $74,464 in the United States.”

Based on the salary ranking by Chronobank, the salary for a blockchain marketing manager is $177,000.
