Nayib Bukele, the President of El Salvador, has been actively working to make Bitcoin the legal tender of the country. He achieved it recently, but he didn’t stop there. A fund was created to ease the process of adoption. Apart from that, El Salvador’s official Bitcoin wallet, Chivo, was created, and residents of the country were incentivized to download and use the wallet.
The adoption of the state-sponsored Bitcoin wallet didn’t go as planned because of some issues. New users were stopped from downloading and accessing the wallet because of the issues that had been noticed. To calm down the worries of people, Bukele released a tweet thread on Twitter to speak on the current happenings and the potentialities that the future offers.
He stated that the tech team has been working tirelessly to improve the process and the effects will be noticed soon. According to his tweet, “The technical errors of the Chivo wallet have been 95% fixed. In the next few days, it will be working at 100%.”
He also added that the 200 Bitcoin ATMs that had been installed were working effectively, meaning that residents could easily use them. Apart from that, the 50 ATMs that were installed in the United States also functioned. The Chivo ATMs were also present in the US and it allows users to carry out activities and transactions without paying commissions.
Bukele went on to state that the option that allowed the Chivo wallet to be recharged with credit and debit cards will be installed soon, and this will be done from anywhere in the world, without the user worried about paying commissions.
Though some organizations in El Salvador have complained about these new changes that Bukele is introducing into the country, the President is not backing down in implementing his strategy to make the country’s residents use more of BTC.
