Binance Strengthens APAC Leadership
Binance has appointed SB Seker as the new Head of its Asia-Pacific operations, a move aimed at reinforcing compliance and repairing strained ties with regulators across the region. The announcement, made on September 1, highlights the exchange’s focus on governance in one of its key markets.

In his new role, Seker will oversee compliance strategies, engage with regulators, and steer Binance’s business development efforts across APAC.
Veteran Compliance Executive Joins Binance
Seker arrives with over 20 years of legal and compliance experience. Most recently, he served as Senior Vice President at Crypto.com, where he managed regulatory negotiations and product development across APAC and MENASA. His career also includes senior compliance roles at major firms, as well as time as a litigation lawyer in Australia and a central banking lawyer at Singapore’s Monetary Authority (MAS).
Binance CEO Richard Teng described Seker as “uniquely positioned” to guide the company through its next phase of regional growth. For his part, Seker emphasized his commitment to working closely with regulators, partners, and the wider crypto community to ensure sustainable operations in the region.
Appointment Follows Australian Crackdown
The leadership shake-up comes just days after Australian regulators escalated pressure on Binance. In late August, the Australian Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (AUSTRAC) ordered Binance Australia to undergo a comprehensive audit of its anti-money laundering (AML) and counter-terrorism financing (CTF) controls.
AUSTRAC flagged issues, including high compliance staff turnover, inadequate local resources, and poor senior oversight. Binance Australia was given 28 days to nominate a panel of external auditors, from which AUSTRAC will select. The audit will scrutinize Binance’s policies, systems, and procedures, with results to be reported directly to the regulator.
While Binance has yet to comment on the audit’s progress, the appointment of Seker signals a renewed effort to strengthen compliance and rebuild trust with APAC regulators.
