João Wedson, founder and CEO of Alphractal, believes the crypto market is on the verge of an altcoin resurgence despite Bitcoin’s recent downturn.
He points out that while Bitcoin dominance has surged past 62%, many altcoins remain accumulating, setting the stage for a potential breakout between April and May.

Wedson highlights the ongoing bearish market trend that began in late 2024, with negative sentiment emerging as early as October. Despite potential further declines in Bitcoin, he remains optimistic about a shift in momentum. Wedson notes that many altcoins have returned to their initial launch prices, contrary to previous optimistic forecasts. Instead of focusing on established cryptocurrencies like Ethereum, Solana, or Tron, he recommends exploring undervalued projects, which he estimates constitute 90% of the market. He emphasizes the importance of tracking new crypto launches in 2025, particularly in GameFi and DeFi, predicting these will be key winners. His simple strategy involves setting low buy orders and observing the market. While he acknowledges his previous bearish outlook was met with skepticism, he now sees a chance for accumulation but reminds others that his insights are not financial advice.
This perspective builds on his earlier comments in March, where he noted that crypto investors might be on the brink of a major altcoin rally, with analysts pointing to a strategic accumulation phase ahead of the next market surge. He emphasized that newly launched projects could offer the biggest returns, as fresh tokens often attract early adopters and market makers.

However, not all analysts share this broad optimism. CryptoQuant CEO Ki Young Ju has warned that the era of indiscriminate altcoin rallies is over. In a February 25 post on X, he predicted a “selective altseason” in 2025, where only fundamentally strong altcoins will thrive while weaker projects struggle. With ETF approvals on the horizon, he urged investors to prepare for a market where gains will be reserved for projects with solid fundamentals.
