According to Tokyo-listed investment firm Metaplanet, its ongoing Bitcoin acquisitions have delivered a 116% return for shareholders from October 1 to October 25.
This company claimed that the figure marks a significant rise from the 41.7% yield reported on the company’s Bitcoin holdings from July 1 to September 30. It attributed the rise to an increase in its Bitcoin holdings.
Notably, following its latest acquisition of nearly 107 BTC on October 15, which effectively doubled its Bitcoin holdings since its acquisition campaign began in May, Metaplanet’s shares rose by 15.7%. On October 7, it had already experienced an 11% increase in share price, reaching an intraday high of 1,047 Japanese yen (approximately $7) after reporting a separate purchase of 108.78 BTC.
According to BitcoinTreasuries, Metaplanet now holds 861.4 BTC and its stock has risen over 459% since it first disclosed its Bitcoin balance on April 23, 2024.
Building on its Bitcoin strategy, Metaplanet noted it is adopting “BTC Yield” as a key performance indicator (KPI). This metric measures the percentage change in the ratio of Bitcoin holdings to fully diluted shares. It was introduced by MicroStrategy, the largest corporate Bitcoin holder, in August.
CEO Simon Gerovich explained that adopting the BTC Yield metric aims to offer investors clearer insight into how Bitcoin acquisitions add shareholder value, saying,
“This KPI, pioneered by MicroStrategy, will help investors understand how Metaplanet’s approach to acquiring Bitcoin using equity capital benefits shareholders.”
Metaplanet plans to report BTC Yield updates quarterly and year-to-date, providing information on total Bitcoin holdings, issued shares, and Bitcoin per fully diluted share.
While the BTC Yield metric provides a focused look at Bitcoin’s impact on shareholder value, the investment firm acknowledged that it does not account for debt, liabilities, or operational income, nor does it reflect historical or future returns. The firm clarified that BTC Yield is intended to track Bitcoin’s influence on share value rather than serving as a comprehensive financial metric.
