Former President and presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has made it clear that, during his potential administration, the U.S. would be a global leader in the crypto space.
At the 2024 Libertarian National Convention held at the Washington Hilton in Washington, D.C., Trump delivered a passionate speech outlining his vision for the future of cryptocurrency in the United States.
Trump pledged to halt President Joe Biden’s “crusade to crush crypto,” ensuring that the future of digital currencies like Bitcoin would remain firmly rooted in the U.S.
“I will ensure that the future of crypto and the future of Bitcoin will be made in the USA, not driven overseas,”
Trump declared, drawing enthusiastic applause from the audience.
He criticised President Biden’s alleged misunderstanding of cryptocurrency and pledged to keep crypto businesses in the United States.
Trump promised to protect their rights to self-custody.
“To the nation’s 50 million crypto holders, I say this with your vote: I will keep Elizabeth Warren and her goons away from your Bitcoin,”
he asserted.
Known for his outspoken views and decisive rhetoric, Trump also firmly opposed the creation of a central bank digital currency. This move has been a contentious topic among crypto enthusiasts and financial regulators.
“I will never allow the creation of a central bank digital currency,”
he reiterated, positioning himself as a defender of financial liberty against centralised control.
Meanwhile, Trump has previously announced that he would accept cryptocurrency donations for his 2024 presidential bid. At a special dinner event at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, Trump told his guests,
“Can we donate to the Trump campaign using crypto? I believe the answer is yes. If you can’t, I’ll make sure you can.”
