Sam Bankman-Fried, the former CEO of FTX crypto exchange, reportedly had several meetings with senior aides of the United States President Joe Biden, as revealed in the White House visitor logs. The most recent visit by Bankman-Fried to the White House was just two months before the collapse of his exchange.
The records show that Bankman-Fried met with Steve Richetti, Counselor to President Biden, on April 22 and May 2, 2022, and with Charlotte Butash on May 13. There was also a meeting with Counselor Steve on September 8, which was not recorded in the visitor log.
This news has caused shock and outrage in the crypto community and among the general public, who are wondering what the man responsible for one of the worst financial crimes in the world was doing meeting with top US executives.
A Twitter user named Paul Szypula commented on the issue:
“FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried reportedly had four meetings at the White House leading up to the 2022 midterm elections. Biden needs to explain what his administration was doing meeting so often with crypto fraudster SBF.”
According to reports, the meetings between Bankman-Fried and the US executives only involved discussions about the crypto industry and centralized exchanges. Bankman-Fried is currently under house arrest at his parents’ home in Palo Alto, California, awaiting trial on January 3, 2023.
