A member of the London Assembly and a previous co-leader of the Green Party of England and Wales, Sian Berry, has announced that it was paramount that crypto ads on buses and trains were stopped.
She made this message known on Twitter Sunday, where she recommended that the mayor of London put an end to using public transport networks to advertise crypto projects in the city.
In her tweet, Berry stated,
“Well after today I am going to recommend @MayorofLondon bans crypto adverts from the TfL network simply for some variety from all the racists in his mentions.”
A day before this tweet, she had stated in a tweet after dropping a link to an article by The Observer, the tweet stated,
“Like gambling ads, which we have finally got the Mayor to remove, there is no way our public services should be used to advertise these unregulated, risky schemes to Londoners. I asked for a ban in July and I am still pushing.”
Berry has continuously likened the cryptocurrency to gambling and felt that adverts on buses and trains could mislead residents into buying into a project because of the hype.
The tweet was met with mixed reactions, but a majority of the replies felt that it was pointless for the London Assembly member to request such a ban.
According to a reply dropped by Robert Stanfield,
“Great idea Sian. Imagine people investing in crypto to escape hyperinflation. We don’t want that. We want everyone to be poor. Also racism of course.”
Most of the replies were in line with his thoughts, and some felt that if such a law was dropped, there would be an alternative to circumvent it.
London has been besieged by crypto ads on different public transport vehicles, especially since the city is the hub of crypto activities. Berry believes that allowing this may permit pumps and dumps to fleece their residents of their money.
